Building Foundations Through Movement and Mindfulness

At VSSL UNION, we believe in nurturing the potential within each child by introducing them to the transformative practice of Jiu-Jitsu from an early age. Our Kid’s Jiu-Jitsu Program for ages 4 to 12 is designed to foster physical coordination, mental focus, and emotional resilience in a supportive and engaging environment.

LITTLE GRAPPLERS (AGES 3+)

PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY

At this foundational age, our philosophy centers on introducing movement, spatial awareness, and the joy of martial arts through structured play. The Little Grapplers program is designed to be a safe, fun, and engaging first step onto the mats, helping toddlers build early body control and a positive relationship with physical activity.

PROGRAM GOALS

• Develop Basic Motor Skills: Improving coordination, balance, and spatial awareness through fun, movement-based games (like animal crawls and safe tumbling).

• Introduction to Structure: Learning to follow simple instructions, take turns, and interact respectfully with instructors and peers in a group setting.

• Build Mat Confidence: Getting comfortable safely falling, rolling, and moving on the Jiu-Jitsu mats without hesitation.

• Foster a Love for Activity: Creating a positive, high-energy environment where fitness and fun go hand in hand.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Our curriculum for this age group focuses purely on foundational movement and play-based learning to prepare them for the next level:

• Level 01 (Play & Move): Introduction to mat safety, basic tumbling, and beginner Jiu-Jitsu movements disguised as interactive games.

Instructors focus heavily on positive reinforcement, keeping engagement high, and teaching the earliest basics of mat etiquette.

BELT PROGRESSION

We recognize early participation and effort through a simplified structure to build excitement and familiarity with the martial arts tradition:

• White Belt

At this level, progress is celebrated through consistent class participation, good listening, and earning stripes. This builds a sense of accomplishment and motivates them before they transition to the formal belt system in the 4-6 Program.

SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD'S JOURNEY

We understand that stepping onto the mat for the very first time can be overwhelming for a toddler. It's completely normal for our youngest grapplers to need a few sessions just to acclimate to the space and the group. Our instructors are trained to guide them gently, and we encourage parents to be a supportive, encouraging presence on the sidelines during this exciting milestone.

  • Level 01 (Foundations): Focuses on basic movements, safety, and introductory techniques.

Cultivating Resilience, Discipline, and Flow

At VSSL UNION, we view each child as a vessel of potential, ready to embark on a transformative journey through Jiu-Jitsu. Our program for ages 7 to 12 is designed to harness this potential, fostering physical agility, mental focus, and emotional resilience in a nurturing environment.

Program Philosophy

Inspired by the symbolism of the empty vessel and guided by our four-pointed star emblem—representing Earth, Air, Fire, and Water—we aim to balance strength with flexibility, discipline with freedom, and individuality with unity. This philosophy underpins our approach to teaching Jiu-Jitsu, encouraging students to explore their capabilities both on and off the mat.
